Susan Smith attends the University of Maine, Orono, working toward her MFA in the Intermedia department. Working in both two dimension and sculpture, she combines work into installations which are site specific. Currently, her work deals with issues of foreclosure/vacancy and abandoned homes, reflecting her photo documentation of the economic crisis in her rural central Maine town. It is important to Susan as an artist to integrate her art practice and her personal life; in this case- her involvement with the Occupy movement.

Susan works as coordinator of the Lord Galleries, on the Orono campus of UMaine, as well as an academic advisor in the New Media dept.
