CONVEY: An Opus from the Road is an improvisational sound and movement piece that creates an audio and visual statement about the trash we see around us – the refuse, used as notation, implies ironically that it has aesthetic value. The conveyor belt in this case symbolizes travel and the movement of time. Since the piece is filmed from above and projected as a moving white canvas with varying shapes and forms, it becomes it’s own moving drawing which the audience can experience as the violinist and mime/dancer respond to the moving notation. The sounds of various pieces of debris hitting the plank below is jarring to the viewer, challenging the expectation of a “nice concert in a nice hall.”
